Tiny Pieces of Awesome

Tiny Pieces of Awesome

Long time no see.

Sorry about that.

I have been busy though! Look what I created!

Awesome cards of Awesomeness

Awesome cards of Awesomeness

Yup, my tiny little pieces of awesome cards were so popular I caved in and designed a new set just for wonderful people like you to share.

In my Etsy shop you will find these cards in packs of 13, each printed on 350 gsm card stock and laminated with a matt finish, prefect for giving to the sweet couple who have tea and scones every Saturday in the park, using real china tea cups they brought from home.

Or maybe you want to be a sneaky little spreader of the awesome and go into a library and find some really good books and stick a card in each one for some lucky unknown reader to find.

How about the people who started out as total strangers, but travelled with you for a week and become friends after you bonded over a love of cake and crumble, classical literature, crafting and history?

These ideas are things I do with my cards, but what could you do? What would you do?
What about giving on to the kid at the Canadian Skate park who defied expectations of him and taught a young girl how to skateboard a bit better? Should he get a card?

I would love to hear your plans or ideas for these little cards.

I do have some other plans for the Tiny Pieces series, so watch this space.

My life is constantly accompanied by music. I have a playlist for just about everything; from knitting to playing board games with my children, cleaning tunes, and even sounds to meditate to. I am surrounded by music.

We are blessed to live in a time where we can surround ourselves with our homemade sound tracks.

glitter11

It has the Best music, Great Company, and No Cover Charge.

In our cars, when we walk, in our kitchens (mine is the best local disco and there is no cover charge.), on tv or in the movies, even some books I read come with their own playlists!

So seeing as we are so blessed why not use the music we surround ourselves with to bring more positivity to our lives?

I have quite a few playlists like this; but the one I go to time and time again is guaranteed to make me smile and move. I call it my Positivity Playlist.

The Rules are simple:

  1. My kids need to be able to sing along so no swearing. (You want to swear go right ahead, this is my house rule.)
  2. No bashing anyone in the lyrics.
  3. Should have a beat, if I can’t wiggle my booty it is no fun.

Bonus points if:

  • It tells a story
  • I feel it in my soul

So, go make up a playlist of some feel good, movin tunes to bring a smile to your face, break out those hair brushes, turn up the knob and rip it off, (I show my age here don’t I?).

I’ll start you off with this little ditty, because it really is awesome.

This video is one of the reasons I created the Awesome Cards that I carry on my keychain.
When you look for positive things in your life you discover that not only do you witness the good things but you also create good things as well.

Awesome Cards for awesome people

Awesome Cards for awesome people

I’ve always held the door open for people to come in behind me, I return shopping trollies to the bays when it is raining for those without waterproof coats, and I give up my seat on pubic transport when there is need.

I thank waiting staff in restaurants and bus drivers, chat to customer service people as if they are people not an outlet for my unrequited rage, and when I am cold called and asked to perform a survey for the latest long distance provider I try to give them 5 minutes of my time because they are people who are trying to earn a living just as much as I do.

(Though I do end my conversation with them with a please take me off your call list. Thank you. It is amazing how few of these calls I get now.)

This is how I live my life, though I did need a reminder to appreciate good things in the world.
We all have bad days.

So I saw this video from The Life Vest Inside, I saw the little cards on Amazon, and I watched a very moving story called The Letter Writer these all inspired me to make my cards.

I’ve had to re-print the cards twice and I only made my first batch 2 months ago. How awesome is that?

What, darling reader, can you do to bring more sunshine into your day? How can you promote positivity in your life? I’d love to know your ideas so I can learn from you.

Chakradance rhythm for your soul

What is CHAKRADANCE?

CHAKRADANCE is a dance practice for body and soul. It’s a powerful experience that will free and energise you. It combines spontaneous dance, guided imagery and music to promote that wonderful state of calm vitality known as “wellbeing”.

The music is the key, as it resonates deeply with each in turn of the seven major chakras – the energy centers that integrate and regulate our physical, mental and emotional energies. Many who have experienced it claim it has transformed their lives for the better; others, simply that they enjoyed it hugely.

What makes it more than your normal belly-dancing or salsa class?

It’s not about steps or performance; you dance with your eyes closed in a darkened room. It’s more like a dynamic, moving meditation. It’s completely about freedom of expression; there is no right way to CHAKRADANCE as everyone has his or her own rhythm and movement. With its roots in Jungian psychology, CHAKRADANCE encourages people to dance for self-discovery and self-healing.

What do you feel is the main attraction?

The best thing about CHAKRADANCE is you don’t have to follow a set routine to feel the benefits; you just let the music move you. People from all ages (16 – 90) can participate. Some people are attracted by the fact that it’s a fun and energetic workout to great music. Other people say it leads to a spiritual awakening. Most people love it because it provides a haven away from their stressed everyday lives, and a rare opportunity to find true freedom of expression.

What makes someone want to be a CHAKRADANCE Facilitator?

Natalie Southgate developed in 1998 because she wanted to combine her work in Jungian psychology and chakra healing with her passion for dance and music.

In my own case, I was searching for a gentle exercise that had a spiritual element after a prolonged illness.

What are the benefits (both physical and mental) of CHAKRADANCE?

The most obvious physical benefit is that it boosts your fitness. It’s a cardio workout that gets everything moving from your face to your feet. It really gets your heart pumping; releasing endorphins to make you feel great. For those who are looking for a more spiritual connection, each workshop is designed to work a different chakra. There are seven main chakras; these centers of energy may be under or over active. Balancing them leads to many benefits, including better relationships, improved confidence and self esteem, emotional health, enhanced creativity, and heightened inspiration and clarity.

But the biggest benefit of all is the absolute freedom to be yourself!

So it can be seen as a tool to improve overall health and wellbeing?

Yes, absolutely. CHAKRADANCE is unique because it’s a cross between dynamic meditation and dance. It requires you to participate physically, emotionally, intellectually AND spiritually.

It is extremely therapeutic, although not in an analytical way. The key to its healing power is the experience itself. Not only is it a new physical activity, CHAKRADANCE truly integrates body and soul.

Master+Dancer+Image

How would you describe the CHAKRADANCE experience?

CHAKRADANCE is almost like entering into a waking dream. Specifically selected and composed music, and tailored visualisations help you tap into your inner world. You close your eyes and surrender to the music. From here the process involves letting the movements emerge spontaneously. As the music’s vibrations affect you, you may see images in your mind’s-eye, recall memories or gain insights related to each chakra. You may also feel emotions or physical sensations.

Can the music really help balance a person’s chakras?

Each of the seven chakras vibrates at its own frequency. Music is able to balance the chakras by using the sound vibrations to tune each energy center. The music is modern dance music with specific musical tones that resonate with the chakras. Interwoven with the music are the pure tones of crystal bowls sourced from across the globe, that release a vibrational sound field that is an essential ingredient of each dance.

CHAKRADANCE music has a lasting effect. The vibrations continue to pulse outward into our energy field long after the sounds have stopped playing. The more we experience these healing sounds, the greater and the more permanent the effect. When the music is combined with spontaneous dance, the healing effect is magnified.

How often would someone need to CHAKRADANCE for and for how long, to achieve the full benefits?

It’s possible to CHAKRADANCE for as little as 15 minutes a day to feel the benefits of Chakradance. Most people get hooked after their first time. Our Facilitators run a nine-week course of 90 minute workshops with each class focusing on a different chakra (as well as an introductory and integration class). We also run special three-hour workshops where you are guided through the dance of all 7 chakras in one session. The more regularly you do it the better. Each time you CHAKRADANCE the experience is quite different. You can even practice at home – there’s a CHAKRADANCE DVD and CDs and downloads of Chakradance music available through the website – www.chakradance.com

My Birthday

All these co-inside and make today the perfect day to offer to you the first of my sacred stories from my Red Tent.

What is a Red Tent you ask?
I could spend hours talking to you about a Red Tent; and someday I will. Though today I will send you to where I learned my information. The Red Tent Temple Movement’s Website.

My story:

In my early twenties I was a young mother, lost and confused, battling Post-Natal Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and throughly disenchanted with my past experiences.

I looked everywhere for guidance, searching for someone to hold my hand and support me in my struggles as someone totally new to physical adulthood and as a new wife.
In short I was looking for a mother and mentor because I hadn’t shed the skin of a child.

I walked into a shop that had an immediate sense of community and was welcomed to join in their evening meditation circle.

I grasped onto the community with a vice-like grip and wouldn’t let it go. In a childish attempt to get everything I craved right then I made myself a pest and a nuisance. I was so desperate to be loved and guided that I didn’t care if people weren’t willing to be a substitute parent.

quote01

Time moved forward and everyone in the group tried to accept me, guide me, encourage me to let go of them, walk on my own and I nodded and gave verbal acceptance of their cues, but didn’t let go. I was determined to make this work for me, nothing was going to get in my way.

Finally they changed from hints to out right “go your own way, please” statements, and “find your own path, you don’t need to hold on so tightly.”

Then, ultimately the “I can no longer work with you, I am leaving.”

It broke my heart. It destroyed me. I was a bundle of anger and judgement, under the anger was the doubt; the thought I was unworthy of being loved.

Because shouldn’t everyone love me unconditionally? They were guides and mentors, they were substitute parents. I needed nurtured and no one was willing to nurture me.

In this darkness of rejection I learned that no one was willing to nurture me because I needed to do it for myself.

The lesson these wonderful people were trying to tell me was finally learnt.

quote02

Thank You for the Darkness

Today I walk strong and I can support my family as well as accept genuine offers of support of those who do love me unconditionally because I love and nurture myself.

May your Guardians and Guides Hold You Close.

Every Thursday I am going to post my Thankful Thurzday as an example of my gratitude practice.

Today is Thankful Thurzday number 2

Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing.

It is pretty awesome.

Today is a good day; I have the warm spring sunshine lighting up my day, I have money to pay my bills, my body can move in interesting and strengthening ways, I can use my education to read new and interesting things, and I have a pot of homemade soup simmering on the stove for tonight’s dinner.

These are things to be grateful for, these things make life worth living.

Welcome;

Every Thursday I am going to post my Thankful Thurzday as an example of my gratitude practice.
Today is my first Thankful Thurzday Post.

You don't have to be perfect to be happy.

You don’t have to be perfect to be happy.

Today is a good day; I have a home to call my own, I have creative outlets to express myself, I am surrounded by good people on and offline, my life is full of music, and I am surrounded by real stories to learn and grow with.
These are things to be grateful for.
These things make life worth living.

Welcome!

Today I would like to draw your attention to something that, quite honestly, changed my life.

This is a big bold statement I know, and some people over use it, but this is something I genuinely feel has made a difference in my life.

Every day, even when I don’t feel like it, or especially when I don’t feel like it. I find and list 5 things that I am grateful for.

It’s called Gratitude Journaling and it is a big deal out there. It’s a big deal because it works.

I started doing it by using Leonie Dawson’s Goddess Gratitude Journal. (It is a freebie on her site here.)  Though I quickly out grew her system.

Now I do it on Facebook and I do it publicly because I am determined to make the world around me a little more sparkly, a little more joyful, and a little more beautiful.

“But how did this change your life?” you ask me. “Naming 5 things you are grateful for is easy and it doesn’t change anything.”

But it does.
List 5 things right now you are grateful for. Go on I’ll wait.

I'm counting my blessings too.

I’m counting my blessings too.

You probably listed your family, a significant other, having food to eat, clean water to drink, a warm shelter to sleep in, and maybe clean clothes on your back.

Or you may have listed your smart phone, your car, the new tv you got, your car, and the fancy new gadget you have.

What ever you listed is good because that is something you have right now that makes you happy. You thought about things that made you happy and you are feeling a little happier for that.

When I started doing this for myself I was ill, very very ill, and I was scared all the time too. I could only think of the worst case scenario and it made me worse.

Then I started my journal and at first I was only able to list 5 things, and those 5 things took me all day to think of. My first list took 24 hours to complete, honest.

Then I started noticing more and more that was good in my life. I was still very sick, but it wasn’t the only thing I thought of. I wasn’t scared all the time.

It really really does

It really really does

I slowly got better and I was grateful of the process and the space being so ill gave me. By practicing my gratitude journaling my world view changed enough to bring me to where I am today.

Full of rainbows and ready to dance!

Welcome back.

I’m glad you made the trip to visit me again.

Now after looking for the awesome in everyday life I feel the need to share with you the awesome I find daily with my on-line life.

My First Blog Post!

Welcome! Thank you for stopping by.

Today I would like to share with you the awesome thing I decided to do with my life.
I decided that I no longer wish to grumble and whine when there aren’t any good parking spots, nor mumble about people hogging the aisle with their trolly.

No, I decided that I needed to stop looking the things that make the world less and start looking for the things that make the world more.

Some of you may have seen these cards, and while the idea is great the language on them just isn’t my style.

So I went to Moo Cards and made a set of MiniMoo cards.

Awesome Cards for awesome people

So now when I am out and about I am now looking for awesome people doing awesome things.

And you know what?

I keep finding them.
